Identification of endocrine disruptors in biocidal products

An overview

Whitepaper by Wilfrieda Mune at Yordas Group

Endocrine disruptors (EDs) are subject to strong regulatory action in the European Union (EU) due to the impact of these substances on human health and the environment; in particular in the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) where the scientific criteria for EDs have been adopted and applied since June 2018 complemented by the joint ECHA/EFSA guidance document on how to assess and evaluate endocrine disruptors. Although the legislative acts have been available for years, identifying ED properties under BPR remains a challenge. This white paper presents an overview of approaches to assess the endocrine disrupting properties of biocidal active substances and biocide.
