A comprehensive database of global chemicals legislation

Challenge

Yordas has been working with a leading global supplier of technology and services to the transport, industrial equipment and consumer products sectors to create a comprehensive database of global chemicals legislation. The database covers all legislation in 198 countries that places limits on substances in articles, and that impacts the products they manufacture.

Our Solution

Building on our Hive database and regulatory expertise, Yordas first compiled a Master List of global legislation, including regulations and implementations of global conventions. Working with our customer, Yordas then prioritised the list and agreed on the level of detail needed for each piece of legislation.

For each piece of relevant legislation, a summary of key information is scripted by Yordas experts, including details such as exclusions, exemptions and obligations. The summaries, together with the associated lists of substances, are presented in a customised format that enables the client to integrate the information into their ERP system.

In addition to the summaries and substance lists, our team also created a log of future obligations associated with relevant legislation to include requirements, as well as timelines of when they come into force. By regularly updating this log, we ensure our customer always has a leading-edge register of regulatory obligations that impact their business.

Once integrated into the client’s ERP system, the summaries and associated substance lists can then automatically link to the bill of materials (BOM) for each product. This allows the client to map any product BOM against the requirements and perform a detailed compliance check at the substance level in each country or region.

Project End: Ongoing Monitoring

During the span of this two-year project, we have identified over 1700 pieces of relevant legislation, scripted nearly 1000 summaries and created more than 700 customised lists of substances.

Ongoing, Yordas will monitor for changes to regulations and lists of substances as well as keep the log of future obligations up-to-date.

Benefits for the Client

Our customised regulatory monitoring helps the customer with risk management for present and future compliance needs. Their employees now have a database of regulations tailored to and relevant to their business and products. Summaries of information, substance lists and future obligations are at their fingertips. Yordas' solution reduces the workload of our client's regulatory team, helps ensure that their products remain compliant now and in the future, and enables them to get on with delivering innovative solutions for everyday life.
