Proving the identity and composition of a substance or product is key to understanding performance, to evaluating manufacturing issues, and to developing the product further. It is also a key regulatory requirement: For example, under REACH, every manufacturer or importer intending to submit an Inquiry, make a Registration, submit a PPORD Notification or apply for Authorisation must characterise their substances fully. Over the years we have successfully undertaken several hundred characterisation projects, detailing the compositions of a wide variety of substances and formulations as well as investigating specific impurities within substances.
In order to identify the most appropriate way to evaluate the composition of a substance or product, we work closely with our clients. We first establish the nature of the substance in question (i.e. organic, inorganic, polymeric …) and gather information regarding its origins (manufacture or isolation process). Once these are understood, a detailed analytical testing strategy can be developed to probe the composition of the substance/product/impurities. With testing selected to provide reliable compositional information with a focus on the ultimate purpose of the analysis. We have access to the latest analytical equipment and can offer a complete testing package for characterisation purposes.
