Maintaining visibility of products with high risk obsolescence

Yordas Group assists leading maritime manufacturer with their Materials Obsolescence Management Plan.

Obsolescence is when materials specified in the design stage or procurred in the manufacturing stage cease to be available on the market. This can occur when a chemical substance becomes banned or restricted, or simply when suppliers no longer support a substance due to the prohibitive cost of compliance.

Where the substance in question is critical for material performance, the result is that any products relying on it can no longer be manufactured or can no longer adhere to the strict approval criteria. To mitigate against the risk, they have developed a materials obsolescence management plan. As part of this, the manufacturer produced a system which allows them to categorise those substances and products which are most likely to be affected by these obsolescence issues using Yordas Hive.
