Dr Neil Hunt features in the Chemical Watch Global Business Briefing following his presentation at the second stakeholder day of the NanoMonitor project, which was held at Lancaster University on 24th October.
The article discusses how nano-specific requirements under REACH could change in 2020.
The current status of nanomaterials in European chemical law is uncertain, with no specific regulation in place nor anything based on chemical structure or form. The majority of rules are use-based, with REACH covering the substances and uses not covered by other regulations.
Dr Hunt, senior regulatory scientist at Yordas explained that the changes don’t necessarily mean that a registrant must characterise such materials; however, Echa might check if there is enough substance identity information to access whether the relevant data in the dossier is applicable to the nanoform of the material.
